Spontaneously Skye
Prologue
Once upon a- oh forget it, that line is so old, and reserved for the somewhat dull and fictional tales, you know the boring type. Let’s start off by introducing myself. I’m Skye, age 13, queen of softball, music, fashion and… drama. I have this “feed-a-friend- to- the- ‘it’ -crowd- get- in- trouble- with- your -parents -every- second” kind of thing going for me. I also have a weird obsession with The Beatles since like fourth grade, which doesn’t go too well with my loud heavy metal loving 16-year-old sister, Taylor. I’m the type of girl you think you know all about just by looking at me. Weird, right? But that’s only the beginning
Alright, so it all started when I opened these big blue pools of mischief on September 29th, 1994. My parents say it was the happiest day of their lives…yeah right. Since then nothing has been normal. My mom was diagnosed with cancer. It was probably all my fault, just like everything else that goes on in my house is. Like the vase knocked down by my sister was my fault, or how the house was egged on Halloween- funny how I wasn’t even home on that day.
Chapter One
“Skye,” said my mom, “Wake up, you’re going to be late.”
“Okay, calm down, I’m getting up,” I groaned. I rolled off of my twin sized bed and stared at my bare feet. While walking to the bathroom I realized that this wasn’t just any ordinary day. It was the first day of eighth grade, a time where I can recreate myself, and obviously a time for social chaos.
“MOM!! WHERE IS MY BEATLE’S SHIRT!?” I yelled down to my mother from the bathroom.
“Skye, your shirt is hanging in your closet where it should be! However, you would not know that because you’re too messy to even know where anything is in your own room! When something’s actually hanging neatly for once you have to ask me where it is? And don’t yell!” she said.
“Ugh, whatever” I said under my breath. I found my Beatles shirt exactly where she said it would be. Ah, The Beatles. My old school remedy for when I’m feeling down. I put it on along with my brand new black skinny jeans, tied my dark brown hair into a pony, and made by way down the stairs.
I made a bowl of cereal for me and Taylor, because she hadn’t even gotten out of the bathroom yet. I moved the colorful Fruit Loops around with my spoon until I found my favorite one – yellow. My adventure-in-a-bowl had just been interrupted when my sister ran down the stairs, wearing my blue ribbon. An immediate fight started, just as we do every morning. Right in the middle of our routine, my best friend Jenna walked in, cheery like every day.
“Goooood morning, Rivers family! Skye, ready to go to school? Hey are those Fruit Loops?” she said, helping herself to a bowl of cereal.
“YES. Anything to get me out of this hellhole.” I said, grabbing her arm as she tried to put a spoonful of colorful cylinders into her mouth.
Chapter Two
Walking towards the entrance of the school I studied Jenna carefully. Her blonde hair was wavy as usual, but her eyes were a lighter shade of green, matching the tank top she was wearing. She was my best friend. The only one who understood me. She could make me laugh at anytime. Shoving through crowds of people, we finally got inside.
